‘Mum’s Lullaby’: Maryna Dawson presents a multicultural project for children and parents

Read Time:2 Minute, 5 Second

Maryna Dawson presents the multicultural project ‘Mum’s Lullaby’. Its first release is a lullaby for children, ‘Mum’s Lullaby’. The song was created to give children a peaceful night’s sleep and adults a few minutes of tranquillity in these turbulent times.

A story that began with a mother’s voice

The project grew out of personal experience: Maryna became a mum and began searching for lullabies for her child.

‘A mother’s voice, her heartbeat and her scent are a haven of calm for a child. I could hardly find any lullabies gentle enough to create a cosy atmosphere, lull the child to sleep and help them relax. We tried various options, but it’s actually the child who chooses. So I started humming my own melody. That’s how the first lines of my lullaby came about,” says the author.

First came the feeling, then the melody, and only later were the words created. For Maryna, motherhood has become her main source of inspiration:

“Without motherhood, I would never have experienced the fullness of life. The power of love has opened my heart so wide, and within it flourishes a tenderness I had never known before.”

A Song for All Living Creatures

At the heart of ‘Lullaby’ lies the relationship between mother and child: tenderness, love and care. The imagery in the song is simple and cosy: moonlight, a fragrant evening, a little grey kitten washing its paw, curling up beside the child, purring and falling asleep. Above them is a gentle breeze, the boundless universe, bright stars and translucent fish.

According to the author, the song is addressed to all living creatures and children across the entire planet. To ensure it is heard beyond Ukraine’s borders, the lyrics have been translated into English.

“This song is about children falling asleep peacefully, wherever they may be. These are turbulent times in Ukraine, with a great deal of stress. But this lullaby is about a few minutes of peace, which we so desperately lack. It is directly about love; there is so much of it in this song,” says Maryna.

About the project
