On 1 November 2024, the Ukrainian community in Switzerland, at the initiative of the VIDNOVA Ukrainian Swiss Women Foundation, joined the world record for the largest screening of the documentary about the war in Ukraine, ZLO. The event, which brought together 1749 participants from more than 50 locations and 34 countries, including Switzerland, was designed to draw the attention of the international community to the realities of war faced by Ukraine.
‘Our task was to draw the attention of the international community to the realities Ukraine is facing today and to demonstrate how the country is defending its European border,’ said Larysa Dakhno, the film’s producer.
Participants, including diplomats, politicians, businessmen, military personnel and volunteers, were able to join the online screening and participate in a fundraiser to raise money for facial surgery for Ukrainian defenders who have suffered as a result of the war. The film’s director, Olena Moshynska, emphasised the importance of the film as a means of awakening consciousness: ‘If this film draws the attention of at least a part of civilised society to the events of the terrible, unjust war in Ukraine, changes the understanding of events and ignites the flame of rejection and resistance to Zl, we will know that our work was not in vain.’
Book World Records CEO Anya Krysiuk noted that this event was historic for Ukraine and symbolises an important voice of truth that should convey the realities of war to the world. The event was organised with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
We express our gratitude to all Ukrainians in Switzerland who joined this historic event, which united Ukrainians and people from all over the world for a common goal – to support and draw attention to the fate of Ukraine and its people, said Olesia Tarasenko, President of the Ukrainian-Swiss Foundation VIDNOVA.
